Bombay s First Lady Gagato me epaperbeta.timesofindia/Article.aspx?eid=31804&articlexml=A-flurry-of-SMSes-as-pilot-finishes-1st-09062014002022 Jun 09 2014 : The Times of India (Mumbai) A flurry of SMSes as pilot finishes 1st ride Somit Sen Mumbai TNN She was nervous initially, but that was quickly swept away by the gush of joy she felt as she piloted the first Metro in the city on Sunday . “I was overwhelmed with pride and enthusiasm as I took the first batch of passengers on Metro,“ said 27year-old Rupali Chavan, who drove the first train from Versova station on Sunday . “I did feel a bit nervous but the thrill of being the first woman pilot for the Metro here boosted my confidence,“ she told TOI. “When I completed the journey between Versova and Ghatkopar, I was elated. Within minutes, I was flooded with messages and calls from friends and family .I had a great day , ferrying passengers on six trips on Sunday .“ Chavan is an engineer in electronics and telecommunica tions. “I had worked in the corp orate sector but I was keen on be coming a Metro pilot,“ she said. “My parents, too, encouraged me to join MMOPL. The one ye ar training, with three months on simulator and six months on tracks, really helped. I will ens ure that the passengers reach th eir destinations fast and safely .“ Chavan cannot stop gushing about the technology being us ed. “We have interactive syste ms through which passengers can communicate with drivers in an emergency . I can also keep tabs on them through CCTV ca meras. Also, we have a hi-tech system for security and surveil lance,“ added Chavan, who has around 64 co-pilots, who will work in three shifts every day . [Click To Enlarge]
