Bond Rigging: This has been happening in Hidalgo County - TopicsExpress

Bond Rigging: This has been happening in Hidalgo County unchecked for years. The time is almost up for many of those involved in this racket. It basically goes like this. When a person gets arrested, the judge presiding over the arraignment places a bond that the person has to pay in order to get out of jail pending any hearing on their case. That person then has the option of going to a bail bond company who puts up the bond. Often times, the defendant will authorize the bond company to ask the judge for a bond reduction. Whether or not the request is granted, the defendant can pay the bond company in order to post bond. This costs a defendant much less money compared to just paying the entire amount of the bond themselves. Sometimes a judge may reduce the bond to a simple personal recognizance bond. This means that the defendant doesnt have to put up any money at all. Heres where the racket begins. There are attorneys, judges, bond agents, and even jail personnel who get kick-backs when the amount of the bond is changed. These people are able to circumvent the entire bond process by being in cahoots with each other. The defendants end up paying either way and everyone in the circle makes money. A judge can even place a very high bond and then reduce it when his contacts ask him to reduce it. These illegal kick-backs then monopolize the entire process and leave the other bond companies high and dry. When these crooks read this, they may take steps to cover it up. Who will fall first? A Justice of the Peace? A District Judge? Well known attorneys? We are here to tell them that its too late. Tick tock. Time is up...
