He was a participant in one of the reality-singing series, Fame Gurukul in 2005 and became an assistant to music director Pritam.[1] Singh is best known for Tum Hi Ho (song) from Aashiqui 2 that won him Filmfare and IIFA best male playback singer award in 2013 and 2014 respectively[2] Personal life Arijit Singh married Koel Roy, his childhood friend on 20 January 2014 in Tarapith temple, West Bengal.[3] [4] Career Singh first came into the public eye during a reality show called Fame Gurukul on where he lost the finals.[5] An offer to record an album from Kumar Taurani of Tips which took almost a year to be recorded, mixed and mastered was never released.[6] Singh went on to win a subsequent reality show called 10 Ke 10 Le Gaye Dil. He also sang the title song Hum Hai Deewane of the Indian TV show called Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon and the Bengali reality show Dadagiri Unlimited in 2009. Singh provided vocals for the Shankar Ehsaan Loy song All For One from the High School Musical 2 (Vol 1) album in 2007. Arijit has also sung the title track of the Bengali serial Tomay Amay Mile along with Ujjaini Mukherjee and of the soap Bojhena Se Bojhena along with Madhuraa Bhattacharya. 2011-12: Phir Mohabbat and entry into Bollywood Singh lent his voice for Mithoons Phir Mohabbat along with Mohammad Irfan Ali and Saim Bhat in Mukesh Bhatt produced movie Murder 2 which was released in 2011, as his first Bollywood movie song. This song created a buzz amongst the youth and topped the charts on the radio for weeks.[7] Though he didnt have any other release that year, the following year, he sung for 6 movies. He worked with Pritam Chakraborty in films like Players, Agent Vinod, Cocktail and Barfi!.[8] He also did sing to Chirantan Bhatts 1920: Evil Returns and for Vishal-Shekhar in Shanghai, where the latter fetched him Mirchi Music Awards Upcoming Male Playback Singer award[9] and was nominated, in the same category for Phir Le Aya Dil in Barfi!.[10]
