Born Free is concerned by reports in the media that Chessington World of Adventures intends to use a macaw as an “alarm clock” to wake up guests at their new hotel. This has been described in the press as a way to make guests “feel closer to nature”…. but the sad irony is that the bird could not be further removed from its natural environment in South America. Born Free believes that wild animals should not be trained for performances or to be used as gimmicks, and that exploiting a macaw in this way lacks any education or conservation merit.
