Born in 1959 in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia, MILCHO MANCHEVSKI is a director, photographer and the author of essays. His first feature-length film, Before the Rain, filmed in Macedonia shortly after the end of the Balkan conflict, won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 1994 and a nomination for an Oscar. In 2001 he returned to the Venice Film Festival out of competition with Dust, set between today’s New York and the old American West. He subsequently directed two other feature films: Senki (Shadows, 2007) and Majki (Mothers, 2011), which was presented in the Panorama section of the Berlin Film Festival in 2011.
