Born on this day, Aug 16, 1954 in Kapuskasing, Ontario; famed Hollywood writer, producer, director James Cameron is celebrating his 60th birthday today. His first professional film job was as art director, miniature-set builder, and process-projection supervisor on Roger Cormans Battle Beyond the Stars (1980) and debuted as a director with Piranha Part Two: The Spawning (1981) the following year. In 1984, he wrote and directed The Terminator (1984), starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. After this followed hit films such as Aliens (1986), The Abyss (1989) and Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991). In 1997, he wrote and directed Titanic. The movie went on to break all box office records and earned eleven Academy Awards. It became the highest grossing movie of all time until 2009 when he wrote, produced and directed the current box-office champion Avatar with over 2.7 billion in receipts. Winner of 3 Oscars and 2 Golden Globes; he has shared in or been responsible for numerous advances in film and undersea exploration technology.....Not bad for a Canadian who worked as a truck driver to support his early screenwriting ambitions....
