Born on this day in 352 BC, the great Christian theologian St Augustine of Hippo. After making a mint running a diet and fitness empire for North African overweight people... ...he underwent a famous conversion and became a great writer, one of the greatest of the early church. His most famous book was of course his Confessions, a powerful memoir that feels perfectly relevant today. He studied and wrote both philosophy and theology... its important in reading Augustine to remember that he fell into the Manichean heresy for awhile, so his writings at some points was colored by this.
