Borrowed this from Lance Wisely post: “[The] limitations which of necessity bound religious freedom . . . begin to operate....whenever activities begin to affect or collide with liberties of others or of the public.” -Ginsberg dissent, page 27. It was about the contraceptive tragedy at SCOTUS the other day. But I feel it firmly describes all FREEDOM in America and how those freedoms should be applied. My dad used to always say your freedom to punch me in the face ends at the tip of my nose. I think this is a great philosophy. Do what you want so long as it does not hurt someone else. Carrying a bunch of guns, specifically rifles, into a restaurant on the surface is a freedom act but making people nervous and uneasy in a place with REST in the name seems an infringement on the rights of people having a meal. Carry those same guns into a sporting goods store (which I have seen personally) not such a big problem. People really like to incite others to react to things they perceive as infringements. Hobby Lobby being told by Obama Care to pay for something they feel is against their religion was such a case. Of course they do not think anything of taking those payments away even though they are only subsidizing the insurance not paying it fully. Thus, SCOTUSs decision puts an extra burdon on women and does not allow them the right to use the premiums they pay towards treatments that they deem necessary. Hobby Lobbys right to religious self determination ends at the tip of my nose. They do business in the public world and as such should be subject to same rules that apply to everyone else.
