Boston, where the American War of Independence started so - TopicsExpress

Boston, where the American War of Independence started so there’s only one thing to do walk the Freedom Trail. Summer St became Winter St on our walk from the hotel to Boston Common. Did the guided tour of the State House under its gilded dome. As the only Brits in the party we took a bit of stick but gave as good as we got!! Paul Revere’s house and then on to see the USS Constitution (Old Ironsides). Apparently she’s undefeated but I reckon she only fought little battles, she didn’t meet up with Nelson’s Royal Navy. Fair play they do take her out to sea about twice a year which is more than can be said about our Victory. Finished off at Bunker Hill, fortunately no one there realised we were British. Back to the hotel following our not very detailed map but it was shorter than following the out route. On the way stopped at a Soda Shop. The proprietor knew where Wales was and had a friend who ‘lived on an island near France’, turned out to be Guernsey. While there we met a lady rugby supporter from Northampton who was grateful for our loan of George North to them. She had family links with Swansea and reckoned Boston looked like Swansea bay (I think she was comparing Swansea marina with the built up Boston harbourside – nothing like our bay of Naples). They have tickets for the Wales v South Africa match when they get home from their New England tour which starts tomorrow, just like us. As we walked back we could see a beautiful red sky, let’s hope the old adage holds true. Boston Red Sky?
