Both the Customs Officers and the Immigration Officers at the Providenciales International Airport lack customer services skills. This is not the first time and I am sure that this will not be the last, as the government fails to train their employees in the area of Customer Service. It is pathetic to learn how some customs officers and immigration officers speak to people coming here for vacation. May I add, that 90% of the tourist who decides to vacation in the Turks & Caicos Islands (TCI) spends well over $10,000 for one week in our Beautiful by Nature Islands . The TCI is not just the only country with beautiful beaches in the World. As a matter of fact, theses persons could have gone to any other destinations in the world, but they decided to spend their hard earn money with us!! In other words, the tourist come here are doing us a great favor by coming, and not us doing them a favor. Immigration: The immigration officers are the first set of individuals to interact with our visitors upon their arrival to our country, in many cases the interaction is not a pleasant one. There is one immigration officer who works at the airport and signs her name with a (P). On numerous occasions this officer has been very rude and disrespectful to a number of visitors to the TCI. In the words of one guest “her face was so hard not even a smile to welcome you to the country)!! What are we translating to the world!!! Customs: Many persons spend 20 hours traveling just to get here, and I know it is NOT the customs officers who cause the delay in baggage claim. However, it is sad to know that if a delay bag arrives to the Island 2 and sometimes 3 days later, that the customs officers will not allow the airline representative to collect the bags for delivery until all the flights are cleared for the day? This in itself further delays the guest receiving their luggage by some 4-6 hours and very much inconvenience their vacation. Tourism is the driving force behind the TCI economy, and it is high time that some of these sour face government workers act like it, before we all end up with out a pay check.
