Botswana calls appeals for funding for satellite Botswana has appealed for financial assistance from the South African government, to fund the conversion of a satellite dish to a telescope for teaching and research purposes. Science and Technology Minister, Johnny Swartz told his South African counterpart, Derek Hanekom in Gaborone on Friday at a bilateral meeting on the Square Kilometre Array, SKA project, that Botswana had not included the scope of the SKA in the current national development plan hence the financial constraint. Botswana and other Southern African Countries are expected to co-host the SKA Project. SKA experts are expected to work closely with Botswana to convert the dish which will direct Botswana towards radio astronomy.
