#Botswana has once again been rated among one of the most peaceful and best governed countries. The Institute for Economics and Peace, released its 2014 Global Peace Index, #GPI yesterday and ranked Botswana 36th out of 162 countries surveyed. On the African continent, Botswana remains behind Mauritius, and is followed by Zambia, Namibia and Lesotho, all of which make up the top 5 most peaceful countries in Africa. This year, Iceland was again ranked the Worlds most peaceful nation, followed by Denmark, Austria, New Zealand and Switzerland. The Survey ranked Syria the worlds least peaceful country, followed from the bottom by Afghanistan, South Sudan and Iraq. It also says the world has become less peaceful each year since 2008, with 111 countries having deteriorated in levels of peace, while only 52 have improved. The Global Peace Index, gauges global peace using three themes: the level of safety and security in society, the extent of domestic or international conflict, and the degree of militarisation. It ranks countries according to 22 indicators of peace.
