Bought the plane tickets and hotel (Howard Johnsons, walking distance to the conference) for the Puerto Rico disability studies conference where Ill be presenting my paper in March. Im excited about this, though also nervous! This is probably the only academic thing Ill be doing this semester, since Ill be on medical leave. Ive already committed to it, and its important to me, so I think Ill go. I think I should be OK--Ill have two months to recover beforehand. And at a disability studies conference, of all places, they should be able to deal with it if I start dissociating and my voice goes robotic, or if I get anxious! The hypomania should, knock wood, be under control by then. And the department should reimburse me for about half the costs (though unfortunately not until after Ive gone). So overall this is good news.
