Bowel incontinence or fecal incontinence is a condition that is a primarily associated with an inability to control bowel movements. The stool movement is a complex process which integrates the rectal muscles and the internal and external anal sphincter complex along with pelvic floor muscles and nerve complexes around the area. It can affect people of any age but is most common among the elderly who have weakened muscles and nerves around their rectum.
