Boy, do I have an update today. First things first, I was a little misleading when I said that my dad was recovering wonderfully from his heart surgery last week. While his heart is in great condition, his lungs failed to recoup as fast as we thought they would have. He spent a rough 9 days in ICU and it was ultimately decided that he would need to be transferred to a rehabilitation facility to help him transition and regain his strength. So long story short, off to TIRR he went! We asked if perhaps he and Mandy could be roommates and after some strings were pulled the staff allowed it and now our two patients are side by side and on the mend! Crazy, I know. But really, really awesome at the same time. We really could have never expected this to happen and our heads are still spinning trying to process it all. Thank you for your prayers! God truly works in the most mysterious and amazing ways! We are taking so much comfort knowing that Mandy has a set of eyes to watch over her and that my Dad can ease his heart and make up for lost time with his girl. Now on to Mandys progress, the Botox injections worked wonders to relieve her stiffness and she now qualifies to have a pump implanted into her abdomen that will release Botox directly into her spine and allow for a steady dosage without all of the injections. It really is amazing to see her now compared to a week ago. They are going to schedule a pump trial on Monday and we are anticipating really great results. Her physical, occupational and speech therapists have all noted lots of tiny improvements that give us so much hope that our girl is fighting to regain her strength. Its been a little tough as these days have turned into weeks, and now months, but every day brings the promise of a fresh start and continued healing. She is so strong, you guys. We couldnt be more proud of her! Thank you so much for continuing to keep us in your prayers. We are definitely embarking into new territory this week with two of us at TIRR, but were staying strong and focused on that light at the end of the tunnel. Stop by TIRR if you want to see us! One of us will definitely be there :)
