Boy killed for talking in class! Published: Friday, 2014/03/28 CHATTING in class with his friends earned Sizwe Kubheka (19) a death sentence. The teacher has been arrested and is facing a murder charge. It is alleged four boys chatting upset the teacher, so he took off his belt and lashed them with it. The belt buckle hit Sizwe’s head. This happened on Monday last week at Tharabollo Secondary School in Palm Springs, south of Joburg, where Sizwe was in Grade 10. His mum, Maria Kubheka (38) of Orange Farm, south of Joburg, said Sizwe died in hospital on Tuesday after days of pain. “Sizwe came back from school and told me he had a headache after his teacher beat him with a belt buckle on his head. “The headache didn’t get better. He went to the clinic but he was still in pain,” said Maria. On Saturday she took him to hospital. “He could not see with his left eye. He was beginning to lose his mind. The next day, he wasn’t talking. He couldn’t walk. He just lay there bleeding through his nose,” said Maria. She opened an assault case at the Evaton Police Station on Monday. When she went to the hospital on Tuesday, she was told Sizwe was dead. Evaton police spokesman Tshitshiwa Mitileni said a case of assault GBH had been opened. “The charge has changed to murder and the teacher was arrested.” Gauteng department of education spokeswoman Phumla Sekhonyane said they were saddened by Sizwe’s death. “We have provided counselling to the parents and fellow pupils. We will also ensure that the school co-operates fully with the police investigation,” said Sekhonyane.
