HARGOBIND KHURANA SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME FOR BRILLIANT STUDENTS TO BE LAUNCHED FROM AUGUST 1, 2013-MALUKA · PUNJAB EARMARKED RS. 8 CRORE FOR THE YEAR 2013-14 · ELIGIBLE STUDENTS TO GET RS. 30,000/- PER ANNUM Chandigarh July 29:- The Punjab Government would launch Dr. Hargobind Khurana scholarship from August 1, 2013 for the meritorious students of government and Adarsh Schools who secured 80% or above in matriculation examination. Education Minister Mr. Sikandar Singh Maluka said that this scheme is named after eminent scientist Dr. Hargobind Khurana who won the Noble Prize in 1968 for medicine. Mr. Maluka said that approximately 3362 students studying in government and Adarsh schools run by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) would get the scholarship. He said government would spend Rs. 15 crore on this scheme in two years, and an amount of Rs. 8 crore would be spend on this scholarship scheme during the current year. He further said that the scholarship amounting Rs. 30,000/- per annum would be disbursed to the students for two year i.e. class 11th and 12th through e-transfer in their accounts. Each student would receive a scholarship of Rs. 2500/- every month. He said that there would be no income limit under this scheme. All students who secured 80% or more would be entitled to this scholarship upto senior secondary level. Mr. Maluka has directed all the concerned District Education Officers to ensure the opening the bank accounts of the eligible and identified students for the purpose of directly crediting the scholarship amount in their bank accounts.
