Breaking News: Rajendra likely to succeed present DGP E-Paper Rajendra likely to succeed present DGP Prasad heading for bigger role in IB Posted on26/02/14by Dailyexcelsior Neeraj Rohmetra Jammu, Feb 25: Senior IPS Officer, K Rajendra, who had been appointed as Special Director General yesterday is likely to succeed present DGP, Ashok Prasad after the latter heads to New Delhi for taking up an important assignment in the Intelligence Bureau. Reliable sources told EXCELSIOR that decks had been cleared for appointment of Mr Prasad for a bigger role in the national secret agency and the necessary clearances had been granted by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). “Prasad, who is 1979 batch IPS officer is likely to join his new posting before the imposition of Code of Conduct in view of the forthcoming Parliamentary elections”, sources asserted. Shortly before Prasad takes up his new assignment, the State Government is likely to appoint K Rajendra, a 1984 batch IPS officer as his successor. “Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has already given his consent to the Home Ministry for appointment of Rajendra”, sources said. It is pertinent to mention that on May 31, 2012, Ashok Prasad, the then Additional Director of Intelligence Bureau had been appointed as Director General of Police in the State. Earlier also, he had served in Jammu and Kashmir for four years. He was appointed Additional Director of IB at Srinagar office in July 2011. He was earlier Deputy Director of IB office in the State from 1999 to 2001. “The tenure of Mr Prasad’s two year stint as J&K DGP comes to an end in July but he is likely to take up his new assignment within days”, sources remarked. During his tenure, the police forces had decimated the top leadership of several militant outfits and the State witnessed lower levels of violence. Mr Prasad, who belongs to Andhra Pradesh cadre had experience of serving in several insurgency infested areas of the country and had also held several important assignments in the past. Prasad was also the First Secretary in the Indian embassy in Nepal in 1995-99. He is recipient of the President’s Police Medal for meritorious services and the President’s Police Medal for distinguished services. Special Director General PHQ K Rajendra Kumar, who is likely to takeover reins from Prasad is 1984 batch IPS official from Andhra Pradesh and has held several prestigious posts like IGP Jammu, IGP Kashmir and IGP CID. Mr Rajendra had also got injured during the firing incident, which took place in the rally of former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad in Srinagar. K Rajendera, had also served as interim DGP of the State for a short duration after the retirement of Kuldeep Khoda. Meanwhile, the State Government today also ordered promotion of P L Gupta, a 1984 batch IPS official to the grade of DGP and posted him as new Director General, Prisons. Sources also asserted that the Central Government has also given their consent for assigning a bigger responsibility to Mr Prasad in the national secretary agency — Intelligence Bureau (IB). The organisation is presently being headed by Syed Asif Ibrahim , who is the first Muslim official to head the prestigious organisation. He had joined as Officer-on-Special Duty (OSD) on December 1, 2012 and succeeded Nehchal Sandhu on December 31, 2012 to head the organisation for a fixed term of two years.
