Breaking up with Sugar, Chapter 13, Section 8B... So after 18 - TopicsExpress

Breaking up with Sugar, Chapter 13, Section 8B... So after 18 days without sugar, I feel really strong. They say it takes 21 days to quit a habit, and some say 66...either way, today, I feel good and strong. But it hasnt come without effort, cravings and arguments with my pantry. Yes, I have cussed out my cabinets, they are like sugar apartment complexes. When you quit sugar, its like freeing yourself from Heroin. The pull it has is ...omg. Nothing kicks my serotonin in quite like the juice of hardcore cane. But I am doing it and I am free, finally free! 18 days and I will celebrate each little step along the way. In the last few years, I was not really a candy eater, my sugar came to me hidden. Ketchup, honey mustard dressings, sauces with my sushi, and even protein bars. When you eat a healthy salad and then drown it in dressing, its easy to pile on sugar from dressing, even the ones you think dont have it. And ketchup?? Good GOD...my foods were slathered in sugar juice. And, dont forget, BBQ sauce, that might be the worst of them all. And last but not least, my beautiful Margaritas, I am a Texas girl, so Margaritas are a must! 20-30 grams of sugar, PER DRINK. And lets keep it real, I aint just drinking one. So in one night, up to 100 grams of sugar pumped in my veins and stored as booty fat. (and dont forget all the sugar I had throughout the day to begin with) Sugar is the devil. It really is. Its in EVERYTHING. Start with baby steps, quit the candy, sodas, and treats slowly. And honestly, JUST dont buy the stuff. If that stuff is sitting out and I am having a weak day, its on like Donkey Kong. I am telling you, that shit sparkles and talks to you when you are alone. I focus more on whole foods without sauces, and yes, its an adjustment. So many things have addictive qualities and we get used to having tea with sugar, milk with chocolate, coffee with mocha, fries with ketchup, grilled meats with bbq sauce, ham glazed in honey, sweet potatoes with marshmallows......see what I am saying? Its the social white powder and everyone is hooked. I believe in my heart, that if everyone gave up sugar, the trend of obesity would drop FAST and recovery rates of diabetes just may shock you. Want to keep your blood sugar level stable to manage diabetes? Then stay away, from these basics you probably have.....White rice, potatoes, ketchup, pasta, bagels, artificial sweeteners, fruit juice, energy bars, low-fat sweetened yogurts, and sports drinks. Yeah, I have moments where I miss sugar, but I miss my size 2 jeans more. Until next time.
