Breast cancer kills more than twice as many women under age 45 in low- and middle-income countries than in developed countries, partly due to lack of availability of a low-cost means to diagnose cancerous lumps. Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation has received a grant to develop a portable, self-reading ultrasound device that can be used by local health aids to determine which palpable lumps are benign and which ones should be biopsied.
