Brenton Low, chef/owner of Whangarei restaurant, à Deco, will be the guest chef for the semi-final of Maori TV’s Marae Kai Masters tonight (September 29), 7.30pm, and tomorrow, 9.30pm. Brenton is setting the challenge to the two marae teams to cook a meal using a MultiKai Cooker. This novel piece of cooking equipment was designed by Whangarei’s Doug Andrews, primarily for cooking hangi in a modern way. However, Brenton has developed a range of other dishes that it can be used for showing how versatile the Cooker is. As the food is mostly steamed and/or smoked it is a very healthy method of cooking and can cater for large groups.
