Brian Hoard Mom I love your thoughts but it is far from that easy. Which I know you know. The biggest problem is you can not replace coal with any agriculture item because it is so difficult to grow mass amounts of crops in these areas. You cant plant 10 acres of anything on a hillside thats almost a 90 degree angle! Not to mention real estate for the manufacturing side of the industry is tough as well. I think the answer to helping the regions supported by coal is to invest in long term alternatives and for the foreseeable future continue to use coal. The transition to agricultural manufacturing etc should be a 50 year plan not a 4 or 8. Just to clarify Im not siding with either of our senator candidates on this issue they both have zero sympathy for those the coal industry helps or hurts they only care about votes. Vote for Patterson!!
