Brian Kanotz spent eleven years at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, GA working in the production greenhouses. He spent ten of his years there as the Greenhouse Production Manager where he oversaw the production of over a million finished potted plants that were used in the seasonal displays throughout the gardens. He has also served as the greenhouse manager and annual display coordinator at Toledo Botanical Garden. Brian completed a greenhouse production internship and a nursery internship at Longwood Gardens. While at Longwood he worked extensively helping to grow and train the cascading chrysanthemums. He graduated from the Community College of Allegheny County with an Associate’s degree in Horticulture/Floriculture, in his hometown of Pittsburgh, PA. Brian is an accomplished grower with thirteen years of professional growing experience. He has extensive knowledge of chrysanthemums having grown or overseen the production of over one hundred thousand finished potted chrysanthemums. He personally developed a technique that uses pot mums in large balls and is accomplished in growing mums in many forms. Brian is joined in this venture by his wife, Sheila Kanotz. Sheila is the Garden Manager at Philbrook Museum of Art in Tulsa, OK. She worked at Callaway Gardens for eleven years, serving as the John A. Sibley Horticultural Manager for eight of those years. As John A. Sibley Horticultural Center Manager she cared for a five-acre facility that includes gardens and conservatories, seasonal displays, stuffed topiaries, and a seasonally operated garden center, in addition to a 40-acre woodland garden featuring hybrid and native azaleas. She worked as a horticulturist at Toledo Botanical Garden in the shade and perennial gardens, while also assisting with the development of a new master plan for the gardens. Sheila completed an indoor display internship at Longwood Gardens. She graduated from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor of science in horticulture with a public horticulture option. Brian & Sheila’s daughter, Mackaya, will be growing up in the business. The Grays will continue to provide support as the Kanotz’s transition into the care and safeguarding of this horticultural collection. Brian is excited about his new professional path and hopes that you will continue to support King’s Mums in the future through the transition and into the future.
