Brick - to paint or not to paint? I spent the morning at a clients - TopicsExpress

Brick - to paint or not to paint? I spent the morning at a clients home choosing colours and offering opinions to get her beautiful waterfront home on the market to sell. We are on differing opinions on whether to paint the brick or not. We completed her french style kitchen a couple of years ago in watery blues and a rough sawn hood above the range and I am of the mind to bring that feeling into the adjoining living room in a fresh contemporary way. I do love exposed antique brick dont get me wrong but my feeling is this particular brick feels dated. My clients love it, so we are at odds. What matters most is what buyers will like. Soooo.....if you were to buy a home and saw this in the living room would you prefer that it was painted or left as it is? As a side note we are both in agreement to add a large rough sawn mantle and to clad the white beams in rough sawn wood as well. These will be stained a rich honey brown. FYI There are two rooms in the house that look exactly like this. The last pictures are my inspiration shot and their inspiration shot.
