Bridge Player Special: Win the Blue Ribbon Pairs! All of the players at the table are supposed to be good, but, of course, you know that you are far better than any of the others are. Sooo --- here’s your chance to prove it! If you get all your tricks, you win the Blue Ribbon Pairs. Otherwise, it’s “Wait ‘til Next Year!” Again! :) Some people already know this hand. If you do, please don’t say anything. I was West, nobody vul, MP’s, and South was the Dealer. Assume standard count, attitude, and suit preference to make everything as straightforward as possible for everyone; A from AK. (The special agreements that actually were being played at the time were no better on this deal.) N T94 T83 AKQJ6 84 W Q6 QJ T874 AKQJT S W N E 1S 2C 2D 2S(*) 3H P 3S P 4S P P P *=limit or better in clubs. Unfortunately, for you, from now on, you are me! Perhaps you should have done something else at your 2nd or 3rd turns to bid, but it’s too late now! Anyway, there’s been an awful lot of bidding, and you actually have quite a few HCP’s for a change. Be it right or wrong, you decide to lead the CA to “take a look at the dummy.” It had its bids too! Partner plays the C2 which is discouraging. (He had no way to give count, other suit preference, etc. in this situation.) BUT, looking at your hand, you’re not too surprised that he’s not thrilled about clubs.:) Declarer plays the C6. What in the world is going on here? What is your plan? For starters, should you play another club? Do something else? Go to the bathroom, and hope some inspiration hits you while you’re there? Please be specific. I’ll be back in a day or so with the whole deal.
