Brilliant Advert From POWA About Reactions To Domestic Violence Check out this brilliant advert created by the charity POWA (People Opposing Women Abuse) that features an experiment that takes place in a townhouse complex in Johannesburg. The intention of the advert is to show us the sad reality that so many people will turn a blind eye to domestic violence. To do this, two very different types of noise are juxtaposed, a guy on drum kit having a practice session and the recording of a woman screaming out in pain as a man beats on her. The poor drummer just minding his own business practising away has several complaints about the noise with people coming to his door to voice their displeasure, however when the recording of the abuse is played, not a single person has anything to say about it! Unfortunately the sad truth is that many of will step forward to complain about the noise of music, a party or the television, but won’t dare get involved in a potential case of domestic violence. I think this advert is really clever and will make people think twice about ignoring the sound of someone being abused!
