Brilliant and, ahem, somewhat exciting ride today. Tried cantering the pones side by side in a hay field. They both exploded in a pre-race bucking fit. I think my friend had anticipated this as, before we started, she gave me a wee lecture on sitting well back with a much straighter knee - like the jockeys do. It works. Much more secure. Later, we did some jumping. Because its been ages Willow got a little over excited and motorbiked the corners. Managed to get her to listen very quickly though and ended on a very good note - smooth, calm, rounding over the jumps nicely. Then went back to the field where the serious naughtyness had happened - me on board Wills and my friend on the ground. Ugh. It seemed to go on forever - her trying to p*ss off and buck me off, me pulling her up, trying again, her exploding again . . . It became very intense and at one point I did actually nearly come off. Eventually, I gave in to irritation and smacked her shoulder with my hand and raise my voice, calling her a couple of rude names. Argh Willow! Will you f********ng stop that you f*********g cow! I am not proud of this. Then, suddenly, it was all smooth and lovely and Wills stopped being naughty pony club pony and was listening and cheerfully obliging. Smooth, steady, showpony canter around the field. I am so grateful to my friend. I am very sure that, without her reasurring presence, I would have wimped out before we hit the good bit.
