Brilliant idea which encouraged me several ways. First, the concept and then the technical achievement. I identified, too, with the nihilistic feeling I think she is expressing -- and in a new, less anarchic way than the angry graffiti or pointless installations we see -- or worse, the infantile portraiture that so many galleries feature these days. The denouement of this climactic thinking was a reassurance for myself; that a fellow American artist could, after all, produce something coherent despite the social shipwreck that seems to be so stifling to me. So, apparently -- it could be done after all! Then I saw she is Czech; not American. What am I saying? That there is essentially no worthwhile fine art being made in the United States? That corruption, greed, Fascism, and the over-riding concern for plain survival have reduced our aesthetic to a level that can only be described as sickness? I guess that is what I am saying.
