Brilliant nod to the great R&B/soul singer, Jackie Wilson. When asked to elaborate about the song title, Hozier explained his love for Jackie Wilson: Hes a big influence for me, hes fantastic. I think Elvis was the white Jackie Wilson, rather than any other way round. I suppose the song is about being lost. Theres sometimes a recurring theme of looking from the outside in and idealising some idea of somebody or something as a cure for oneself. Its also me trying to enjoy writing something more fun, playing something more fun. Studying History of Rock & Roll elective my freshman year in high school was the reason I enrolled in guitar the following year which gave me a blues foundation and ended up minoring in music with guitar performance taught by James Manuele. All these classes I earned an A in but I wish I could be half as amazing as Hozier who sounds like a blast from the past. I can hear all the blues and soul influences in his music. He understands the foundation of rock and roll.
