Brimfield Township has shuttered the nation’s second most-popular police Facebook page, amid uncivilized comments and posts from the public since the sudden departure of its embattled former chief. The move that blocks access to the department’s 177,000-plus Facebook followers is temporary, Brimfield Capt. Chris Adkins said Monday. The page went dark over the weekend, following Friday’s abrupt retirement of former Chief David Oliver, who also shut down access to his personal Twitter and Facebook pages. Brimfield’s Facebook page over the weekend became a battlefield between those supporting the ex-chief and those who condemned him after the Beacon Journal published a story providing details of Brimfield officer Crystal Casterline’s allegations of misconduct against Oliver.
