Bristol Bay Supporters, As you possibly know, we are in the process of a 60-day final comment period on Pebble Mine. One last time. It ends September 19th at 8pm AK time. We have a solid Take Action link on the Save Bristol Bay website that can be used immediately: takeaction.savebristolbay.org/savebristolbay/issues/alert/?alertid=63285276&PROCESS=Take+Action This is the last comment period on Pebble. The EPA has submitted a draft determination outlining restrictions on proposed mining of the Pebble deposit at the headwaters of Bristol Bay. Once this is over, the EPA will hopefully release a Recommended Determination, further solidifying the proposed restrictions. They will then consult with the State of Alaska and Northern Dynasty Minerals and then – hopefully – issue a Final Determination and implement the restrictions. All of this could be done by January 2015. If that happens, the 8-year process we have been involved in to protect the world’s greatest salmon run and one of the truly epic fishing and hunting destinations on the planet will have come to a successful close. (If you want a detailed explanation here is the EPA’s Bristol Bay page www2.epa.gov/bristolbay.) Attached is a simple package that can be used for action alerts or copy for a newsletter or blog. There are also a bunch of pictures and pre-written Facebook posts and Twitter tweets. I am happy to jump on the phone with anyone and have a direct conversation on any of this. We are also happy to provide additional imagery or help you write something more original for your audience. If you’re willing, please share the Facebook updates from https://facebook/SaveBristolBay on your Facebook pages. That would be a huge help. This can happen anytime between now and September 19th, as often as you’d like. Finally, a HUGE THANK YOU for everything over the years - it has been a monstrous help. We all have very important issues in our own necks of the woods. Taking a moment to get your members or customers involved in Pebble when it is hard enough to get them to engage on something closer to home has been a major reason we are winning this thing. Bristol Bay has become a rallying point for the angling and hunting community – Over 1,100 sport fishing and hunting groups and businesses have thrown their collective weight behind this battle. So we cannot possibly begin to thank you enough for the support, the Red Gold screenings, the chance to speak at meetings, the introductions to other sporting businesses and conservation groups…the list goes on and on. So, you’ve got one last push in you, right? If we finish strong, we can secure a conservation victory that will go down as one of the greatest in history. Thanks for being on the team. Let’s do this!!! Scott Hed Director Sportsmans Alliance for Alaska (605) 351-1646 sportsmansalliance4ak.org
