British couple missing off Mexican coast after deadly Hurricane Odile wreaks destruction Destruction: Hurricane Odile hit Mexico last Sunday Published: 20 September 2014 Updated: 10:22, 20 September 2014 A British couple have been reported missing after a hurricane hit the Baja California Peninsula in Mexico. The pair, who went missing when their yacht overturned in La Paz, have been named as Londoner Simone Wood and her partner Paul Whitehouse. Mr Whitehouse is believed to be working as a scuba instructor in the city. Hurricane Odile left a trail of destruction when it hit the Baja California Peninsula last Sunday. A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office said: “We are in touch with the local authorities and are providing consular assistance to the families at this difficult time.” The British Embassy in Mexico has advised British nationals in those areas of Baja California and Baja California Sur affected by the hurricane to leave through Los Cabos International airport.
