Her termination has been branded an “overreaction” by a Muslim organization in the United Kingdom, The Sun reported Wednesday. Alison Waldock, 51, served the meat forbidden to Muslims after Khadija Darr, 7, pointed to a gammon (ham) meal and Waldock put it on her plate. The schoolmaster at Queen Edith Primary School and Nursery caught the mistake before the child began eating. Waldock, who had worked for the lunch caterer for 11 years, was suspended and later fired for “negligence, carelessness or idleness.” The server said she felt the school made her a scapegoat “so they can’t be seen as politically incorrect. I was really upset when I found out what I’d done.” Inayat Buglawala, chair of the moderate Islamic group Campaign Muslim4UK, on Tuesday termed the woman’s firing an “overreaction.” “The most sensible way to rectify such mistakes is to improve awareness of the pupils’ dietary requirements while apologizing to the pupils and their parents.”
