Bro. Sudhakar Reddy and his team exposed earlier The social networking site, Face book has achieved one step ahead of what the RTI could do expose prevalence of corporal punishment in public schools . The fact that it can do much more is evident from a recent exposure on the networking sire where a Hyderabad school student pasted pix of his bruises on his body caused due to his biology teacher George . Siddanth Totla, an Class VIII student of St Paul’s High School in Hyderguda, had posted pictures of the bruises inflicted by the teacher in the classroom on November 10. Many of Siddanth’s classmates had sent in their comments condemning the brutality of their teacher. The pictures published by a local newspaper shows the welts on the boys back and also marks on his cheek. The face book entry by the boy brought out several comments by the students friends and also parents whose children were studying in the same missionary school. The management of the 50 year old school was baffled further when the avalanche of attack on the net had not materialized in the form of any demonstration or dharna before the school premises . Brother SudhakarReddy, principal of the school said following the face book exposure the management had enquired into the incident during the week end and suspended the teacher . But the parent of the victim student , Rajendra Totla, a businessman , an alumni of the school did not press charges even when he went to a local police station and complained verbally against corporal brutality . “It is my school and I did not want to blemish it when I refused to give a written complaint on suggestion of the police “he said. School authorities were thankful to the parents but the parent’s body of the school had taken objection to the entire affair. “Why should they post such brutal pictures when they had no intention to pursue it ? Such acts will embolden the school authorities to be lenient on erring faculty members “said a member of the parents association. However some of the comments by class mates of Siddhartha made an over all condemnation of their teacher. “Vadu Oka Picchodu (teacher is a mad fellow). Vadni rallato kottali (he should be stoned) “said one class mate. Another class mate said ‘teacher should be sent to mental hospital and another said “George came from Jungle and hence he is jungly (crude)”. Both the teachers and parents associations have expressed shock over the exposure in social networks about their school. “What discipline can we enforce in the school when the children can talk about us or threaten to expose us on networks “, said a spokesman of the teachers. “Now we are more scared of the students than our principal as we don’t what games these boys will be up to malign or defame us “, he said . Parents say that although the use of mobiles is banned in schools the social networks offer the students more avenues to discuss issues other than academics. Both of them are keen to explore means to block the kids from using those avenues .eom
