I believe that more studies are required to determine the short & long term effects of the potential hazardous waste that would be stored in the DGR. It would seem that the Federal Government echoes this sentiments, as they just recently finished up holding public hearings regarding the safety and viability of the DGR. Going forward, the matter is being dealt with at the Federal level – pending approval from the federal minister of the environment, who can then authorize the panel to issue a licence to build the DGR , and realistically speaking, it would seem to be out of municipal hands.
