Broom Sticks A lion faces a child, She is told to run for her - TopicsExpress

Broom Sticks A lion faces a child, She is told to run for her life. He will eat you, They say. He will leave you to die! But she can only smile. What is there to fear from a lonely lion? Jesus drips down the sidewalk, His gifts held out to cluttered hands. He will save you, They say. He will send the sinners to hell! But she shakes her head, What is there is fear from the innocent? A television is dropped from a window, Cracking the little girl’s skull, Live your dreams, They say. Never give up! As they paint over peace with a flag made of stars. What is there to fear from freedom? Today they outlawed graffiti, It was too much change. Dangerous, They say. Corrupting the youth! There is no future in their eyes. So much to fear from the thought of living. She grabs a balloon and flees North, A bull’s-eye on her soul. No! They scream. What will you do without safety!? But she doesn’t look back As she waves goodbye to broom sticks. ~The Poet
