Brothers, Tom Carr kind of stole my thunder when he posted those - TopicsExpress

Brothers, Tom Carr kind of stole my thunder when he posted those pictures of our new Chapter House earlier today. That being said, I am glad that he posted them, because you all deserve to know what is going on. Our chapter alumni have been in negotiations with UK for nearly two months now to acquire a new chapter house. In early June, UK officials contacted me asking for a meeting. At that time UK let me know that the new Dining Commons facility to be built by Aramark was scheduled to smack dab in the middle of our house. UK has been very accommodating during this process and has been extremely cognizant of the fact that they were asking us to move with very little notice. We are finalizing the details of a new agreement that will result in us having a new home on UKs campus. For those of you that were on campus prior to the late 80s you may remember this house as the ZTA house. Those that were in school during the 90s will remember this house as the Sigma Kappa Sorority House. No matter who occupied the house while you were on campus, you will all recall that this is a wonderful location. Not only is it in the middle of what was known as sorority circle for years, but it is part of the newly conceived (within the last 10 years) Greek Park that UK has been working on. Being in the Greek park is great from a social/recruitment perspective, but it is also important because this house and the entire Greek Park is part of UKs long range plan. Some of you have asked if this is just a temporary fix. Please know that this agreement has been entered into as a long term solution. We plan to be here for many years to come. Another question that I have heard other alums ask, is how much of our investment will we lose out on from the total house renovation that occurred 5 years ago. Be rest assured that our deal with UK will allow us to recoup all of our unamortized expenses from this venture. To summarize, we are getting a great deal in my opinion. For as long as I can remember, Phi Sig has had a dark cloud looming over us as to what UKs future plans were for our house. We all knew that the day would come that we would have to move, but we werent sure when or how it would work out. We held on long enough to be one of the last houses standing and it has paid off. I am proud to announce that we will begin the process of moving into Phi Sigma Kappas new home on Saturday August 9th. Not only will we have a new home, but as mentioned in a previous post, we will have a fully operational kitchen (with a cook) in the house for the first time in many years. Needless to say Alumni and Actives alike are thrilled with this situation. This has been a total group effort. I want to thank all of those that have been involved along the way and helped with this process. While many have assisted, the following individuals have been instrumental i helping me negotiate this move... Tom Carr, Greg Stack, Karl Steel, Mike White, Galen Linville, current Chapter President Trevor Nichols, and our House Director Jim Martin. Thank you to these individuals and all others who have assisted along the way. I truly believe that this move will go a long way in cementing our chapter on UKs campus for the next 30+ years.
