Brothers and Sisters in Messiah, Let me ask you a question. But first, lets look at a few short passages from scripture - But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and disputes about the Law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. - Titus 3:9 But refuse foolish and ignorant speculations, knowing that they produce quarrels. The Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will. - 2 Timothy 2:23-26 As I urged you upon my departure for Macedonia, remain on at Ephesus so that you may instruct certain men not to teach strange doctrines, nor to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which give rise to mere speculation rather than furthering the administration of God which is by faith. But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. For some men, straying from these things, have turned aside to fruitless discussion, wanting to be teachers of the Law, even though they do not understand either what they are saying or the matters about which they make confident assertions. - 1 Timothy 1:3-7 If anyone advocates a different doctrine and does not agree with sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to godliness, he is conceited and understands nothing; but he has a morbid interest in controversial questions and disputes about words, out of which arise envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions, and constant friction between men of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. - 1 Timothy 6:3-5 Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear. Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. - Ephesians 4:29-32 Heres my question to you: How many hours a day do you spend A) reading/studying Gods Word? B) in prayer C)in groups like this or on Facebook in general Im fairly new to this group, but I notice two things about this group. 1) There are several posts / comments that seem to go nowhere and can often deteriorate into irrelevant debates over meaningless issues. 2) It is easy to become drawn in and lulled into almost zombie-like states of Facebook hypnosis, becoming drawn into an endless vortex of debates and controversies, arguing and speculation, spending too much time online that might be better used for His purpose. Im finding Im spending too much time here and not enough actually with God. So Im unplugging for today and giving more time to God. Because talking about God isnt the same as talking with God. And Knowing about God isnt the same as knowing God. And when here I hope we all can deal with each other as God commands, in love and with patience and respect, remembering we are all His children and He loves us all and desires unity, peace and love for us. Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. - Ephesians 4:1-3 I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me. - John 17:20-21 SHALOM!
