Brrr …winter is finally here in all its chilly glory. Unless your dog is built for polar conditions having him sleep outside is not really cool. I am a firm believer in dogs being part of the family and that means they are welcome inside my home as much as any other sentient being I know, especially when the weather is bad. However, if your dog insists on sleeping outside then you can do a few things to ensure that he is warm and cosy. - Increase the dog’s food by 20% to help the dog generate enough energy to stay warm. - Provide a dog house in a space with as little draughts as possible at night. I strongly recommend housing the dog in the garage allowing access by means of a doggy door to keep the cold air outside. Install an economy wall panel heater for the extra cold nights - Provide plenty of blankets and a thick soft cushion - Install an infrared light in the dog house - Dogs with thin coats such as Doberman Pinschers, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, etc. will welcome a warm and snugly dog jacket. And no, the jacket will not make Titus look like a sissy.
