Bryan McDowell of American Atheists affiliate Secular Humanist Society of East Texas sent us this report on some of that groups recent activity: Secular Humanist Society of East Texas is an educational non-profit organization. We formed to bring together the secular community of East Texas, help those in need, and tear down negative stigmas and stereotypes associated with the non-religious. As humanists, our greatest and most central desire is to enrich the lives of those around us and eliminate the suffering so many individuals face due to a multitude of circumstances. One of these ways is supporting human equality issues. Last weekend, we had a booth at East Texas first big LGBT Pride Festival in Longview, TX. Its estimated a little over 500 came out in support. It was very fun and entertaining. We met lots of people and even had almost 40 people sign up for our email list. Great things are currently happening in East Texas.
