Buba Marwa, supporters defect to PDP Premium Times The former military governor complained of marginalization in the APC. A former military governor of Lagos State and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Buba Marwa, has formally defected to People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Mr. Marwa, a retired brigadier general, declared for the PDP on Sunday after a meeting with his supporters in Yola. He left the APC with his supporters after complaining of marginalization in the party. The former governor left PDP for the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, in 2011 after the conduct of the PDP governorship primaries which nominated Gov. Murtala Nyako to run for second term. The CPC later merged with three other parties to form the APC. In his speech Sunday, Mr. Marwa, a founding member of the APC, accused the party’s national leadership of handing over the party in the state to Mr. Nyako who only joined the APC after its formation. Mr. Marwa, who later contested the last state governorship election against Mr. Nyako under the CPC, said his supporters were marginalized during the recent APC membership registration in the state. He said he would not accept a situation where Mr. Nyako, who came from PDP, would just take over the party from “the original founders in the state”. Mr. Marwa said he would dialogue with the PDP so as to ensure he got a fair share in the party. Others, who spoke at the meeting shortly before the voice vote, insisted that they should leave for the PDP, which was their original party.
