Buddhist Boot Camp says You know those two or more voices in your head? Theres the voice that urges you to trust and be humble, to forgive and let go, to love unconditionally and be optimistic.. and then theres the voice that fills you with fear, doubt, hatred, animosity and guilt. Who is doing the talking in your head, and whos the one listening? Are there at least two versions of you? One fighting for dominance and the other trying to co-exist? Cartoons depict this as an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other, but I see an obnoxious ego on one side and a calm and collected Buddha on the other. The ego jumps up and down all day like Donkey from Shrek yelling Pick me Pick me, but the Buddha... he just sits there quietly with a smile on his face thinking... You know what to do... And its true.. we DO know what to do, but Donkey is too difficult to ignore sometimes! This is why I dont try to ignore it but rather acknowledge it, honor it, and THEN follow the Buddhas wisdom anyway.. I find that all the ego really wants is to be acknowledged, so I give it a gentle bow and it immediately quiets down. Its like training a little kid, I tell ya.. you cant give it a cookie every time it throws a tantrum because then you simply train it to throw a tantrum every time it wants a cookie!
