Budgam woman succumbs to injuries, curfew re- imposed Srinagar, July 27: After two days of ‘calm’, curfew was re- imposed in parts of Budgam district following death of a woman at the SK Institute of Medical Sciences at Soura here last night. While the family alleged that the woman died in police action, police refuted the charge saying “she died during clashes in the district.” Doctors at SKIMS said she was having blood clot in left side of her head and an injury to right elbow. “She was having head trauma,” officiating Medical Superintendent of SKIMS, Dr Farooq Ahmad Jan, told Greater Kashmir. “The injury can be due to fall or assault but we were not able to ascertain it.” Police sources said the body was brought to District Hospital Budgam for postmortem today and was later handed over to the family. The people of Dadina refused to bury the body alleging that Fatima died during police action. However, a senior police official said Fatima died while there was a scuffle going on between Dadina and Betbagh villagers that continued for at least two hours. Later Abid Hussain Ansari, brother of senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Molvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari arrived at Dadina and pacified the people. He persuaded the family and people to bury the body. Reports said curfew was re- imposed in Budgam town and 17 other villages while joint parties of JK Police, Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and paramilitary forces were deployed in huge numbers to enforce the clampdown. Army continues to remain deployed in curfew-bound areas to help the administration restore law and order. Reports said announcements are being continuously made through public address systems asking people not to pay heed to rumors spread by vested interests. “The curfew was relaxed for few hours last night, but the restrictions were re-imposed today as we apprehended escalation in tension during the funeral of the deceased woman,” an official of Budgam District administration said. “All these areas where curfew was re-imposed have witnessed group clashes,” he added. Meanwhile accusing forces of resorting to unprovoked stone- pelting and damaging residential houses, residents of Wadwun Kushalpora Budgam alleged the clashes were spread by forces in their locality. “On Tuesday at 6:10 PM forces personnel appeared in our locality and entered into residential houses abusing females and beating all irrespective of gender and age. They smashed windows and destroyed many residential houses,” said Dr Tariq Ahmad Mir. He said his mother and sister who where all alone in the house were beaten to pulp and “our house was partially damaged.” admin:Aasif ul islam
