Building volunteers’ capabilities and connecting schools with Waterways Watch Society (WWS) I joined 175 students of Huamin Primary School to do litter picking at Lower Seletar Reservoir Park this morning.......... 1) The students from ten primary and secondary schools in the North West District will be educated on Singapore’s unique waterways system; how they are inter-connected and why it is important to protect the aesthetics of our waterways through connecting schools with Waterways Watch Society (WWS). This will be done through educational talk and hands-on learning opportunity (e.g. litter monitoring programme). 2) This project targets to outreach to 10,000 students via educational talks in schools and about 550 students will turn what they have learnt through the assembly talks into deeds where they will go for the experiential learning trips to the waterways at either lower Seletar reservoir or Yishun pond. 3) The launch of the Waterways Clean-Up @ North West is jointly organised by North West Community Development Council (CDC) and Waterways Watch Society (WWS); and supported by Nee Soon South Grassroots Organisations (GROs) and schools in the North West District. 4)The North West CDC provides funding support through We Care @ North West Fund; and connects schools with Waterways Watch Society (WWS). 5)We hope to encourage and enable more ground-up initiatives with the broader aim of nurturing a strong “We Care” spirit in the North West Community. The nine-month Waterways Clean-Up @ North West programme started its inaugural session in July 2013 and will be expected to wrap up in March 2014.
