Bulk carrier Garima Prem ran aground in China BYVILIYANA FILIPOVA– PO STED ON AUGUST 22, 2014 POSTED IN: SHIPS ACCIDENTS Garima Prem The bulk carrier Garima Prem ran aground off Lianyungang, China. The vessel hit a sandy bottom at low tide most probably due to navigation mistake of the officer. The ship stuck and was unable to refloat by own power. At the scene of the accident was dispatched a towing tug to attempt refloating at safety depth. During the accident the bulk carrier Garima Prem was loaded with 72,555 tons of iron ore and the salvage team was considering lightening the vessel in case of towing fails. Fortunately the salvage operation succeeded at high tide and the vessel was towed to safe depth and anchored. The vessel was held for inspection by the local authorities, but from the first sight there are no sufficient damages. During the accident there were no injured people and no water pollution.
