Burger #37 The Moo Baa The Watermark Hotel, Glenelg. This burger recently won the award for Best Pub Burger of 2014 so naturally I had to go and put my 2 cents in. It has a big white seeded roll, wagyu beef and chorizo patty, pulled lamb, hickory smoked BBQ sauce, James Squire cider braised onions, american mustard, rocket/fancy lettuce and melted jarlsberg cheese. First off the bat and throughout I thought this burger had an excessive amount of meat on it. The bun which was soft and fresh did a good job of covering it all but I found this burger hard to review as the meat flavour was so overpowering that it was hard to pick the other flavours. Having said that the meat was delicious and very different to any burger ive reviewed so far. The beef whilst wagyu (which is usually a death sentence on burgers) was succulent, not too marbely and perfectly cooked. It had a nice subtle chorizo spicyness to it which it definitely needed to seperate itself from the awesome pulled lamb which was moist and just full of flavour. The onions were well cooked and nice but the flavour of them was minimal through the meat. The BBQ sauce and mustard were a great mix for this burger as they complimented the meat well and the rocket gave a nice bit of salad crunch for texture. The cheese was there but again was lost in the burger and really just held it together in an otherwise VERY messy burger. Overall it tasted really good and accompanied with delicious onion rings was a decent size meal but I just felt like there was one ingredient missing that could have contrasted flavours and brought this burger into the stratosphere!! As for best pub burger in adelaide im not sold just yet but holy burger is it worth a try!! At $20 ita not cheap but the size was good and its flavour more than warrants the price tag. Score Bun 4/5 Meat 4.5/5 Filling 3/5 Sauce 5/5 Total 16.5/20
