Burglary report: I just returned from Puertecitos and want to report some recent happenings. My place was broken into the first week in June. Probably the same night, Peggys generator was stolen from her place. In my case, the thief pried open the front shutter and jimmied the slider off the tracks. They must have seriously cut themselves as there was blood throughout the house. (Too bad they didnt lose a finger!) They ransacked the place and stole a few things. From inside the house, they pried off the door casing and attempted to get into the garage. They succeeded in getting the door partially open, but never got the deadbolt off. However, the door was open enough for someone to slip in, load some tools into the jeep and attempt to hotwire it. Not sure if they were interrupted or thought better of making that much noise breaking the garage door down, but thats how things were left. Clara called the police from Delicious and made a report, but I had to go to Valle de la Trinidad to file the official report as the owner. Fortunately, Jay went with me to translate and the officers were very attentive in taking the report. The following week, they sent out four officers to take fingerprints and DNA (from the blood). I am taking measures to add more security. Clara has installed an additional upper gate and all gates will be closed at 10 p.m. Also, she has hired two additional full-time security people for the summer. One will live above Jay on our side of the bay and the other is in a little house just above the hot springs. The officers emphasized that we must all continue to make a police report if they are going to ultimately apprehend these thieves and have their prints in their database. Apparently, they are getting bold about entering the camps by boat as well. Keep a description of any suspicious people you may see or any license numbers of automobiles that are not familiar. I know most of you are gone for the summer, so just a heads up.
