Burma luxury hotel hit by blast Last updated 2 hours ago An explosion has shaken one of the most prestigious hotels in Burmas main city Rangoon, say police. One American guest was reportedly injured in the blast at the Traders Hotel. There was little sign of damage to the outside of the building. It is the latest in a series of small explosions in Burma, which is also known as Myanmar. Two people are reported to have been killed by homemade bombs in attacks across the country in recent days. No-one has claimed responsibility for the blasts. The latest explosion, late on Monday, blew out a window in a guests room, shooting shards of thick glass more than 30m (98 ft) into the street in the citys central business district, according to the Associated Press. News agencies quoted an unnamed police officer as saying an American woman had been taken to hospital with minor injuries. We assume that it was a bomb blast but we are still trying to find out more information, the police officer told AFP. The suspected device reportedly went off in the guests bathroom. Burma has been hit by a string of bombings in recent years, which the government blames on separatist groups, although it is not clear who was behind the latest blast. Source : BBC
