Burying my soul here~ Ive lived in Longview most of my life, so almost everybody knows me, either by my real name or my roller derby alias Messie. So I know many of you are struggling in your own lives, just like me, with big and little issues that consume your thoughts as fears, worries and concerns from time to time. Here recently our high school group lost 3 lives. One was close to my family and has shook the core of what the right thing to do and next step forward should be. Another one completely baffled me as to WHY there was not another choice, another person to confide into, another perspective to look at whatever consumed that heart, mind and soul... Just ONE MORE SECOND to glance at life and see it for all of its glory, to keep this sweet man on this earth, is what I have come to the conclusion that he needed. For 6 years I have been involved with roller derby, and have more than enjoyed not only being back on my skates like I was growing up, but the sisterhood of derby, and feeling of belonging to something so awesome and bigger than myself. Roller derby has kept me rolling as I say, and I mean it in so many ways. Yes, like everything else in life, it has politics, and that has knocked my wheels out from under me a few times. And my precious roller derby family picked my back up as well. But just like in life, you get back up and keep rolling, or hope to anyway. The reason I am saying all this is JUST IN CASE there is ANYONE that sees this post, and feels alone, depressed, out of options, has no where else to turn, I DEMAND you to Call someone, go to your church mentor, go to your wife or husband or best friend! There IS someone HERE that cares about you, and will listen and help you get back rolling. I also invite you to come skate tonight. Bring a friend or your significant other, or whoever. GET OUT OF YOUR BOX. SEE THAT LIFE HAS MANY MORE LAUGHS, SMILES, CHALLENGES AND SWEAT than what you are consumed with right now. I dont mean to make light of suicide. I have felt the pain of someones lack of an alternate plan DEEPLY, and cannot imagine the pain they feel. My heart goes out to these sweet morning souls. I am saying that life is full of upsets and downfalls, but we MUST NOT let them get us! And if you have no where else to turn, come to a roller derby practice and turn left with us!! Roller derby has truly saved my soul, more than once. I encourage everyone to give it a try. You can use it as your mommy/daddy alone time, or to just see what else life has to offer. If you are not on ateam, this team is a great one to consider. Suicide has broken my heart this past couple of weeks. All I can do is invite you to come skate. If you dont, I hope you keep rolling anyway, and find someone to break down to. God knows we all need to from time to time. And to anyone else that just wants to see what roller derby is about for no other reason than to check it out once, We welcome you. Gregg County Gunslingers (GCG) is a new team from the Greater Longview area. They are building this team from scratch, and have a long way to go, but are working really hard to get there. They have a public Facebook page that is being formed and published soon. It is a perfect time to join and learn with the rest of the team. Become part of a team that wants to make a difference and improve life, one fall at a time. TONIGHT GCG will be at The Lone Star Skate Rink, in Gilmer, @ 7:30pm. The cost is $5 to put on some gear and skates and dig down deep into who you really are. Call or text me if you need a ride. Ill see you there. In the meantime, Keep Rollin!
