Bus 196 departed from the interchange 6 minutes later than - TopicsExpress

Bus 196 departed from the interchange 6 minutes later than scheduled. I calmly told the Chinese driver that he was 6 minutes late (in the middle of rush hour), and turned a little to look at the ten-plus people queuing behind me at the berth. He attributed it to congestion at the bus parking lot, but we all saw the bus leave its lot 5 minutes late and spend only a minute stuck in the parking area. I told him to try harder to be earlier next time, and thanked him for his service. He smiled. It took a lot of courage and restraint to let a driver know that his small acts can cost society many man hours and still make his day instead of delivering a scolding. But it felt great and I encourage everyone to do this. Our public transport companies are obviously still not serious about enforcing punctuality, but we can make the drivers feel a sense of societal responsibility to us to be on time! Tell the bus captain when hes considerably late, let him know how important he is. Maybe then theyll feel a better sense of accomplishment and well get higher quality bus service. Its a two way road, and appropriate communication is key.
